House worked on training films with Ronald Reagan and Bing Crosby among others. He had just returned from combat with the 49th Fighter Group, 7th Fighter Squadron in the South Pacific at the time this photo was taken.

Lt. Col. A.T. House taxiing his P-40 Warhawk called "Poopy II" in New Guinea. House reports that this photo was taken as he was returning from a mission over the Markham Valley. The bomb rack under the center of this aircraft has no bomb, meaning he had dropped it on the target for that day. House was one of the most decorated Aces of the U.S. Army Air Corps and has more than seven purple hearts. Col. Robert L. Liles stands beside the nose of his P-40 named “Duke” after his childhood hero John Wayne. Robert L. Liles joined the Army Air Corps in Nov. 1940 and joined the 16th Fighter Squadron of the 51st Fighter Group in May 1942. He was based in China when this photo was taken in 1943.
