Dreams Take Flight as Boy Scouts Gather for First Annual Aviation Camporee March 13-15 at Fantasy of Flight
Scouts to Earn Aviation Merit Badge Amidst World's Greatest Flying Machines at Central Florida's Premier Aviation Attraction
From Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15, the dreams of hundreds of Boy Scouts will take flight as Fantasy of Flight, Central Florida's premier aviation attraction hosts the First Annual Aviation Camporee.
The weekend presents a unique and unforgettable opportunity for Scouts to earn their aviation merit badges amidst one of the world's most impressive private aircraft collections, including 40 rare and vintage models, many of which have been restored to flying condition. Throughout the action-packed weekend, the boys will practice their primitive camping skills while participating in a variety of educational and immersive aviation-themed activities. The Scouts not only will tour Fantasy of Flight and visit real working aircraft maintenance and restoration areas, but also have the chance to talk with aviation mechanics, restoration specialists, and pilots by participating in a variety of special merit badge stations. They also will experience a number of simulators such as piloting a hot air balloon; flying a hang-glider or taking the controls in the cockpit of a real Corsair fighter.
"It seems like it was not that long ago that I earned my Boy Scout aviation merit badge, and I am proud to welcome the Scouts to Fantasy of Flight to help them earn their badges in an interactive and inspirational setting," said Fantasy of Flight founder/creator and former Boy Scout Kermit Weeks. "As well as helping the young men to earn their aviation merit badges, we hope to inspire them to work hard to achieve their dreams, whatever they may be."
Cost of the Camporee weekend is $25 per Scout plus $37.50 per Troop campsite (both rates inclusive of tax). The $25 rate includes admission to Fantasy of Flight, specially tailored tours, and Scout merit badge stations as well as lunch on Saturday. Reservations are required and admission is limited.
