{"id":2557,"date":"2012-01-23T19:48:30","date_gmt":"2012-01-23T19:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=2557"},"modified":"2018-11-08T13:30:56","modified_gmt":"2018-11-08T18:30:56","slug":"corsair-project-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/kermit-weeks\/corsair-project-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Corsair Project Update!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Got a chance to check on the progress of our FG-1D Corsair project while on a trip to Australia. \u00a0The project is owned by the not-for-profit organization I started back in 1979. \u00a0Originally named the <em>Weeks Air Museum<\/em>, it has now been renamed the <em>World&#8217;s Greatest Aircraft Collection<\/em> to reflect a broader and more inclusive purpose. \u00a0I purchased the project in the 1980&#8217;s from a gentleman in Seattle, WA and later donated it to the organization.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2562\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 546px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Kermit-and-Corsair-Spar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2562      colorbox-2557\" title=\"Kermit and Corsair Spar\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Kermit-and-Corsair-Spar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"546\" height=\"392\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Checking out the progress on the Main Spar<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The airplane appeared in the racing scene after WWII and sported the name &#8220;Joe&#8221; on the side . \u00a0It had an extra fuel tank installed behind the cockpit and was used in the Bendix race from LA to Cleveland. \u00a0It&#8217;s a fairly complete project but had a corroded upper spar cap that needed to be replaced. \u00a0A Warbird restorer in Australia had a project with the wings cut off and needed a good center-section to build a jig for his.<\/p>\n<p>We struck a deal where he would replace our spar cap for the use of our center-section. \u00a0While apart, we paid for any additional restoration work that needed to be done, which included a new firewall and attending to some minor corrosion. \u00a0All the work has been done except for the final manufacture and installation of the new spar cap and then reassembly.<\/p>\n<p>It should be a fairly straight forward restoration from here on out. \u00a0I&#8217;m sure my restoration team will begin to get excited about the project once we get it back to Fantasy of Flight.<\/p>\n<p>Kermit<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Got a chance to check on the progress of our FG-1D Corsair project while on a trip to Australia. \u00a0The project is owned by the not-for-profit organization I started back in 1979. \u00a0Originally named the\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[67,20,15],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2557","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-chance-vought-fg-1d-corsair","category-fun-travel","category-kermit-weeks","corsair-project-update"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2557","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/7"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2557"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2557\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":6333,"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2557\/revisions\/6333"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2557"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2557"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.fantasyofflight.com\/collection\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2557"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
