With years of successful event planning and production experience, they know the ins and outs of creative event production. Peaches Decker, Senior Account Executive and Richard Painter, Vice President of Sales and Marketing took time out of their busy schedules producing one-of-a-kind events to answer a few of our questions. FInd out below why Wizard Connection ‘s partnership with The Venues at Fantasy of Flight just makes sense.

What inspired you to join the hospitality industry?

Knowing the challenge was going to be something different every day, and being able use creativity to bring out success and gratification.

What makes Wizard Connection different from other décor companies?

We are a complete event design and event production company, that is continuing to evolve and grow with every facet of the industry.

What are some current décor trends you are seeing? Have any of them surprised you?

No surprises really.  Many of the trends are cyclical – they just have a different undertones.

What questions should a meeting or event planner be asking their décor company?

It’s funny because the planner should actually have a specific direction from their initial meeting with their (end) client – if anything they would have the answers to our questions.  If not, that’s where our design experience comes in and we can (help) create an event from concept to execution.

Name (3) things that a planner should keep in mind when determining their décor needs.

Budget, theme and layout…(and lighting)

What do you think is going to be the “next big thing” in terms of event décor?

Technology always brings in the next big thing.  But as mentioned earlier, with trends and themes being so cyclical – e.g. vintage classicLounge – the undertones change (texture, color, etc), the next big thing is how to make your version, your vision original and successful.

Thank you Peaches and Richard for taking time to answer our questions and for being a fabulous “Friendor”!

Seal_of_the_United_States_Department_of_the_Navy_svgToday marks the 240 years since a small naval force  was commissioned by the Continental Congress to help off-set the British sea power in moving commercial goods and troops during the Revolutionary War. Two years after the war ended, Congress disbanded the Continental Navy and sold the remaining ships. The United States Navy today still recognizes October 13, 1775 as its official establishment and since 1972 each Chief of Naval Operations has encouraged a Navy-wide birthday celebration “to enhance a greater appreciation of our Navy heritage, and to provide a positive influence toward pride and professionalism in the naval service.”

You too, can celebrate Naval-style in our Carrier Deck! The Carrier Deck is decoratedCarrier Deck (3) to authentically capture the spirit of the USS Yorktown and includes an F4U Corsair.  Also included is a functional observation tower that easily doubles as a DJ Booth.  This 4,900 square foot space also features a 30 seat screening room, making it an ideal spot for showing off your own historical videos.

“Happy Birthday” to the United States Navy!  The Venues at Fantasy of Flight sends our heartfelt thanks to  all those who have served and are now serving.

An impressive Red Carpet Arrival set the tone for guests arriving via motor coach onto our legendary South Hangar ramp for a pre-dinner cocktail reception inside our South Hangar. Featuring two large bombers flanking a traditional red carpet and uplighting that provided an impressive “WOW” on arrival, Fantasy of Flight welcomed over 600 guests for an electric evening.

FF_429Highlights of the cocktail reception space included custom theatrical lighting, gobos and break-up patterns that created texture and movement, an opulent central bar, chic white lounge furniture placed on white platforms creating levels and intimate networking areas.  Elegant draping created a beautiful backdrop for a deejay and live entertainment.

FF_164Our North Hangar transformed into a stately dining room for a lavish dinner prepared by Puff ‘n Stuff Catering accented with vintage aircraft, custom designed tables featuring central water elements, king banquet tables, standard 72″ round tables, and acrylic “ghost” chairs. Striking lighting elements in hues of blue and purple including large spotlights, lit tables, and luxurious centerpieces created a stylish feel in the space.

Who doesn’t love the 80’s? Big hair, neon colors, music videos, the Brat Pack, Michael Jackson, and Madonna…. what’s not to love! Pull that Members Only jacket out from the back of your closet and create an event that will be as big on fun as Alexis Carrington’s shoulder pads!

Welcome attendees with a red carpet arrival accented with Rubix Cube towers and look-a-likes of famous 80’s icons. We all know that “Video Killed The Radio Star” so a video DJ can make a great addition to get guests out on the dance floor. Prefer a live band? 80’s cover bands can definitely provide great energy coupled with large projection screens flashing scenes from iconic 80’s music videos and films.

Vibrant colors and great lighting including LED cocktail tables, LED dance floor, and comfortable lounge furniture accented with lighted cubes can turn your 80’s party into something straight out of a brat pack classic!

Remember to include your theme in food and beverage selections as well. Try some new twists on nostalgic favorites including 7-Layer Dip served in individual parfait glasses, Chicken in the Egg (fried chicken deviled eggs), bacon wrapped potato tots, buffalo chicken lollipop wings. and a refreshing Sea Breeze or Cape Codder specialty cocktail can also incorporate your 80’s theme.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Sharon Baragona, Director of Sales for A Chair Affair to find out what makes Sharon and A Chair Affair the perfect fit for The Venues at Fantasy of Flight.

What inspired you to join the event décor industry?

I started working in the hotel industry at the age of 15 and fell in love with the wedding, meeting and convention side.  My hobbies are interior design and planning personal parties, dinners and events.  A Chair Affair, Inc. was a perfect fit for me to assist many clients and brides to have their DREAM event come to fruition.

What makes A Chair Affair different from other décor companies?

Our team, service and products are exceptional.

What are some current décor trends you are seeing? Have any of them surprised you?

We are still seeing from the classy, elegant events to the vintage, country/chic events.  Food trucks are also a big hit – especially sending off the guest with some take home treats.  I like surprises and anything unique!

What questions should a meeting or event planner be asking their decorator?

Once the planner gives the decorator the feel and theme for the wedding – they need to ask if the decorator can work within their budget.  Know what communication form they like: example email, text, or phone calls.  Does the decorator have insurance?Ask the decorator have they
worked in this venue before?  Is there a backup plan?

Name (3) things that a planner should keep in mind when determining their décor needs.

1. Venue

2. Logistics

3. Budget

What do you think is going to be the “next big thing” in terms of event décor?

Making backdrops and unique ways to display the presentation of the food.  Using rich colors like Marsala, Wine and Rose Gold.
